Out of thin air
2025 Film and installation |
Göschenen is a small village in the Swiss Alps, home to several hundred people and a hydropower station. Opposite the power-station is the Alte Kirche, a church dating back to 12th century with incredibly high humidity which is constantly managed with dehumidifiers powered by the electricity from the nearby hydropower station. The cycle between water generating electricity followed by the electricity generating water is followed within ‘Out of thin air’ an installation and short film. Dehumidifiers are repositioned to the central altar within the Alte Kirche as they summon water from the air, like a priest preforming a minor miracle, which is transported across the church floor to snow shovels resting against the walls. Upon contact with lithium the water reacts, heating the liquid and returning it back to the atmosphere, continuing the cyclical relationships between water and electricity, power and faith within the Swiss Alps.
