River stones, electronics, audio and artificial intelligence. 

The Adige River has undergone significant changes over time, especially near Trento where the river was canalised during the mid-19th century, a process that diverted the river away from the city centre, physically and psychologically distancing it from the community. ‘The River’s Voice’ explores a renewed relationship with the Adige River through sound, installation and artificial intelligence.

A short interview about the Adige River has been completed by members of the community to create a corpus for artificial intelligence that can be heard within the installation and talked with directly via mobile phone.  The sound of the river is also transmitted live from a location high up within the river tributaries where the river stones within the museum installation been collected. Bringing together stories, stones and data the installation forms a disembodied river presence emanating from the river rocks, like digitally reconnected erratic stones.
