British Airspace is technically the portion of atmosphere above or within 12 nautical miles of the British coastline. Formed with the British Aerial Navigation Act of 1911 it is a carefully monitored space, with unauthorised incursions by foreign aircraft making national headlines. The installation British Airspace considers the concept of territorial space by viewing air as a physical material instead of a defined space. ‘British air’ is collected in London and then transported abroad for slow release in the futile act of creating a new temporary terrority. |
